Task 2:

Week 5:
For our next task, we had to put our character on a Pokemon card. I started looking for inspiration.

Fig 1, Inspiration for sketch, from here

I came across this image and liked the composition of the over-the-shoulder shot and the story it tells.
Based on surface-level information, Dr. Ratio (right) is pointing a gun at Aventurine (left). However, it seems that Aventurine is unfazed and even encouraging Dr. Ratio to pull the trigger. Making Aventurine in control of the situation despite having a gun pointed at him.

I also used this picture as inspiration as they are walking towards each other, both look equally confident and brave. I want to incorporate the atmosphere into my sketch.

Then, I used Frame Ink as a reference for the composition as well.

Using those as references I started my based sketch.

I wanted to incorporate an over-the-shoulder shot, making it look like the shot was taken in the middle of battle while using the Foreground, Middleground and Background method.

My character, Twinkle (middleground) is having a battle with Osol (foreground), although the over-the-shoulder shot makes Osol look ominous, Twinkle looks like he is still confident.

Week 6:
I first started on the character as it was the centre of attention.
Fig 5, Proses of making Twinkle

I used the pen tool to replace certain elements and to adjust the hair and wand on Twinkle. I then started to work on Osol.
Fig 6, Process of making the Guy

I heavily relied on the Pen tool for this and used purple as it is seen as an ominous colour and contrasts well with pink. I also used the Ellipses and Gradient tool for the cane, however, I changed the gradient to mesh later as it looked better.

Then it was time for the background.
Fig 7, Process of making the background

I used the Ellipses and Mesh tool for the background and the brush tool for the clouds. The slight glow on Twinkle and the Osol was made by Gaussian Blur. I then added some stars in the background using Symbol Spray

After that, I adjusted a little of the colours and placement of the illustration and finished the illustration.

REFLECTION:
I had fun with this task, and although Illustrator was hard to use at first, I started getting used to it and it became easier to work with. I liked coming up with the composition, it was definitely difficult since I don't usually illustrate 2 characters at once but I think it came out great.
