Advanced Typography - Task 3: Type Exploration & Application
16.6.2025 - 18.7.2025 / Week 9 - Week 13

TASK 3 FINAL COMPILATION:

Story behind the designs:
The two characters that are present for the majority of the designs are the two main characters of the light novel. The two have a complicated relationship and often clash with each other; however, as the story progresses, they start warming up to each other and eventually depend on each other.

REFLECTION

Experience
Going into Advanced Typography, I was dreading it, to be honest. I went through Typography, and while I enjoyed some of the tasks, it was definitely not my favourite course. So when it came to an advanced version of a course I did not enjoy so much, I was not excited. However, when I heard my friends were in the same timeslot as me, I looked forward to it. And it was amazing, my friends being there made the entire course so much more enjoyable, and we made many funny memories, like how our tutor still mispronounced one of my friend's name even after being correct on three occasions. Moving on to the course itself, it really made me use all the knowledge I gained from Typography, it also taught me new skills, and I got a full font I am really proud of.

Observations
I saw plenty of my coursemates' work on the projector screen, which gave me a lot of material. However, as my friends and I were in the same timeslot, I got to see their work in progress, their sketches, digitisation, all of that before it even hits the projector in our classroom, which gave me a lot of insights into the process and since all of them had different ideas, their process, problems and how they fix their problems were all different, and that gave me endless ideas and solutions to the problems I face. Also, this course showed me that you can be creative and still follow the guidelines.

Findings
During Typography, we had to make a partial font, and back then, it was so hard for me. If you tell me back then we made an entire font based on the light novel we love, I would have gone mad. This module has really pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me do things I would have never thought of doing. Although there were so many bumps and a literal sink hole in the road, I managed to pull through and made some things I am proud of.
