    TASK 2:

  CHOSEN ARTWORK
Fig 1, Chosen Artwork, from here
Title: Unknown
Artist Name: rc_dec
Year: 2024
Size: 1836pt x 1160pt
Medium: Digital Illustration
OBSERVATION:
Figure 1 shows a composition of two men wearing black and white coats, standing on top of a giant measuring clock (a clock that shows the year). The measuring clock seems to be moving at a high pace as the men's coats are fluttering at a fast pace. There are also Korean letters moving around in the background.
ANALYSIS:
Fig 2, Analysis Sketch, Way of analysis taken from here
In figure 2, Emphasis can be found as the viewers' eyes are immediately drawn to the centre of the measuring clock and the two men with coats. The principle of balance is also present due to the two men standing on the left side of the composition, making the left side heavier and creating an asymmetrical balance.
Additionally, scale can be found as a usual measuring clock can fit in the palm of your hand, but it is clearly bigger compared to the men. The composition contains harmony as well due to the colour palette having analogous colours, and the image is visually pleasing to the eye. Furthermore, movement is present as the Korean letters seen in the background are twisting and turning around the image.
Lastly, the rule of thirds can be applied as the focus point of the composition falls under the guidelines of the rule of thirds.
INTERPRETATION:
The biggest thing in the composition is the measuring clock, since the clock measures years instead of hours and minutes, it could mean spending a long time on something, or longing for something.
Then we see the two men, the one in the white coat has a slight smile with his arms open, while we could not see the expression of the man in the black coat, we can see his arms are close, this can mean the two men have opposite personalities. However, it does not look like they are in a disagreement.
We can also see Korean letters floating around the background, it gives off the feeling of fleeting words, passing swiftly or vanishing quickly.
With the above interpretation, we can interpret that the two men might have gone separate ways, or were forcibly separated for a long time, and fig 1 could be an interpretation of them in the middle of the separation.
IDEAS FOR SKETCHES:
- Use some of the same principle
 - Asymmetrical Balance
 - Harmony
 - Rule of Thirds
 - Movement
 - Emphasis
 - Scale & Proportion
 - Use different characters
 - Use similar art styles (somewhat detailed)

SKETCHES:
SKETCH #1 - Our Last Song
Fig 3, Sketch 1, Our Last Song
For fig 3, I drew two people singing on stage, however, the background is filled with floating platforms with pouring rain, giving a sense of movement, I also have the two people on the right side of the composition for asymmetrical balance, lastly harmony will the present as the composition will be cohesive.
The reason for fig 3's composition is tied to the chosen artwork and shares a similar narrative, there are two spotlights shining down on the people, however, only one person is illuminated. There is also rain in the image, signaling something sorrowful. I named the sketch "Our Last Song" to signal an ending that happened too quickly.
SKETCH #2 - The Dance
Fig 4, Sketch 2, The Dance
For fig 4, I drew two people dancing while gazing at the courtyard containing a water fountain and some greenery. The principles found is balanced as the fountain and the people will visually weigh the same, movement by the dancing people and harmony for the scenery.
Contrary to fig 3, fig 4 shows a more peaceful composition of two lovers dancing, both looking into a courtyard filled with greenery, while having sunlight spilling into the room they are in. I wanted the element to have a more timeless scene instead of a sense of time running out.
SKETCH #3 - Warmth
Fig 5, Sketch 3, Warmth
For fig 5, I drew two people sitting at a campsite, surrounded by the forest. Balance is present by the campfire and the people occupying the same amount of space, and harmony will be present as this composition will be aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
I drew this composition with the thought of a photograph-feel to it, as it was captured in the middle of a scene. The scene in which two close friends are having a calm camping trip, fig 5's composition is similar to fig 4's composition. The light coming from the campfire illuminates the two people giving it contrast.

        FEEDBACK:

      Week 4:
When doing analysis, avoid using personal preference. Divide the analysis into 3 parts and finish up the work.
      Week 5:
My tutor approved my work and liked the first sketch (Fig 3) and second sketch (Fig 4). However, I lacked explanation for my composition and had to add more words and details.

      REFLECTION:

This task was just as fun as the first task, and I also learned how to analyze artwork, although I misunderstood the task at first, I managed to finish it in time. Developing the 3 sketches was tough at first due to my lack of inspiration, however, after getting ideas, it was nice and calming. I did make another mistake on the rationale for the 3 sketches but fixed it in time.
