PROJECT 2
Exercise 3: Kinetic Typography
For this exercise, we were grouped task with making a music
video using kinetic typography. I was grouped with:
- Leong Hui Xuan (Leader)
- Jesslyn Octavia Tjong
- Gwendalyn Firly Bong
- Loke Yoong Xin
- Loy May Sheen
- Edmund Chuah
The music we chose was "Last Surprise" by Lyn, a Persona 5
Original Soundtrack.
We then divided the task among ourselves.
Last Surprise - Lynn
[Intro] - Aw Wen Chia
(instrumental)
[Verse 1] - Loke Yoong Xin
You try to run me through
Hold on, think again
Don't you know what you're starting
But you sure ain't got a clue
How bad this will go
Don't you know, know my art (art of war)
[Verse 2] - Gwendalyn Firly Bong
And as you look to the horizon
Not a cloud
But then stormy weather's caught you cold
Seems like it crept up out of nowhere
All around
You it's not quite what you foretold
[Chorus 1] - Jesslyn Octavia Tjong
You'll never see it coming
You'll see that my mind is too fast for eyes
You're done in
By the time it's hit you, your last surprise
[Intermission 1] - Gwendalyn Firly Bong
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
[Verse 3] - Aw Wen Chia
You think you got your game
Planned out
To a T, yet I'm two steps ahead, yeah
So, you step into my way
Stand down, it's a trap
One more step
And you're dead (yeah, you're dead)
[Verse 4] - Edmund Chuah
Why just a picosecond ago, clear blue skies
But now lightning's struck your last resolve
It's not an accident that no one
Hears your cries
As your last strength seems to dissolve
[Chorus 2] - Loke Yoong Xin
You'll never see it coming
You'll see that my mind is too fast for eyes
You're done in
By the time it's hit you, your last surprise
I'm coming for you
My game's always so fast, so fine
You're spun in
By the net you didn't catch it in time
[Intermission 2] - Jesslyn Octavia Tjong
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
[Bridge] - Loy May Sheen
Better think about your game
Are you sure your next move's the right one for you?
Are you sure you won't get outmaneuvered again
And again, my friend?
[Chorus 3] - Leong Hui Xuan
You'll never see it comin'
You'll see that my mind is too fast for eyes
You're done and
By the time it's hit you, your last surprise
I'm comin' for you
My game's always so fast, so fine
You're spun in
By the net you didn't catch it in time
[Intermission 3] - Jesslyn Octavia Tjong

After dividing the parts, I got do to the
Intro and Verse 3. We started working on the storyboard for each
of our parts while discussing what fonts and colours to use.
We then started editing in After Effects.
I also used Illustrator to create compositions to animate in
After Effects.
After fixing some details like typos and colour changes, I
compiled all the compositions into a cohesive video and made
some adjustments to make the transition between verses by
different people smoother.

Exercise 4: Motion Graphic Chart
For this exercise, we had to make a motion graphic chart. Each
student was tasked with a different chart, mine was the donut
chart.
Following the tutorial for the donut chart, I used After Effects
to animate it with trim.
Exercise 4:

Exercise 5: Vector
Animation
For this exercise, we had to animate a vector image. There were 4 different image to be assigned to, I was assigned to "Image A".
I started sectioning the image in Illustrator to make it easier to animate in After Effects.
Then I started animating in After Effects using the knowledge we gained from previous assignments.
After that I uploaded the finished product to YouTube.

FEEDBACK
Exercise 3: Kinetic Typography
Our tutor said he was fine with the storyboard, however, he said that due to our chosen song being fast, he was scared that some of the words could not be read by the viewer. There were also some parts on the storyboard he did not understand, but with further explanation, he was able to somewhat understand what we had in mind.
REFLECTION
This project overall was very fun. Exercise 3 was definitely the most challenging, as it involved making a music video with 7 other people. When I first heard of this assignment, I genuinely thought it might be a "too many cooks spoil the broth" situation, however, I was proven very wrong. My group communicated from the start. Everyone finished everything in a timely manner, timely manner according to my calculations. While there were some back and forth sometimes, my teammates were very helpful, and I am very grateful to be teamed up with them.
Exercises 4 and 5 were relatively simple, while they were confusing at first, after watching the tutorial and getting some help from my friends, I was able to complete the task without many issues.
